Systems Latest News

Written by

As most of our clients are aware, over the last 12 months we have been collaborating with our developers, Blueberry Systems Limited, who were tasked to build and deliver a new system tailored to our requirements and even more importantly our client’s requirements.

We are pleased to announce that we have completed the final stages of development and started to migrate our clients over to the new system on the 1st October.

Careful consideration has been made to ensure the services we have always offered, whether standard or more bespoke, remained in place. Equally, we have factored in elements and processes to improve efficiency and offer our clients more accessibility, such as 24-7 access to real time stock levels, order status and order management.

One of the biggest features of the system has been the transition to barcoded order processing and stock control. This has meant actively assigning products to barcoded stock locations within the warehouse, meaning that at a touch of a button, every item of stock can be accounted for and location is always known.

It has been a great testament to the team at Carrier 3PL and Blueberry that the transition to the new system has had no impact on our ability to process our customer orders and everything has moved over better than we could have hoped for.

2023 Roundup

Written by

f2d029b428db7634af83dd8c66d16231A round up of 2023

It’s been a very busy year for all at Carrier 3PL. We have taken 2023 to invest in all things IT based. We started the year by building a new website to have a clean look and show off our branding. In the background we have been working on building a bespoke warehouse management system which has been soft launched throughout the last quarter of this year. It has been a very large undertaking and our IT department have been busy working on finishing the final details along with Blueberry Systems, to ensure that we can offer our clients a simple, yet fully transparent insight to their stock and orders, 24hours a day.

We are pleased to say that we have onboarded a lot of new clients this year and it is with great thanks to our amazing warehouse team that this has been a seamless transition for them. The clients have definitely kept us busy in the run up to Christmas! It has been a pleasure to help in the growth of a lot of companies this year and we look forward to seeing what exciting new things 2024 brings to the table.

We saw one of our longest standing team members retire this year, after over 20 years of service. It is definitely well earned and although we will miss him, we do hope he enjoys every moment of retirement! We have also welcomed a couple of new members to our team and they have got stuck right in and are great assets to us.

All that is left to say is a huge thank you to our clients, suppliers and staff at Carrier 3PL. Keep an eye out for exciting growth in 2024!

Happy New Year to everyone

Couriers and Surcharges

Written by

Negotiating prices for postage can seem like a minefield. The cost of fuel is still on the high side and the couriers are passing these costs on. We have seen some couriers change their fuel surcharge on a daily basis, meaning it can be really difficult to keep track of what you are paying on top of your base rate per package. On top of this, you have to consider the surcharges for going to remote locations and for driving into congestion zones.
We can take all of this stress away from you. We have fixed rates with all of our main couriers, including Royal Mail, Parcelforce, Fed Ex and Norsk. We also have these rates set out on a easy to read document so that you know exactly what you are paying. With these costs fixed in until the next financial year at the earliest, this is one less thing for you to worry about when considering the costs for your business.

Barcoding and what it means

Written by

20230823 114307Traditionally Carrier 3PL has been a non barcoded warehouse and although we have seen no problems with this method, we are upgrading all of our software which means now is the perfect time to make the switch to barcoded picking and packing.
A lot of work has gone on in the background ready for this big change, including mapping the entire 40,000sq ft warehouse and creating barcodes for our clients products that have historically never had them.
Barcoding the products and their picking locations takes away the human element in risk factoring. With the handheld scanners now telling us exactly where to pick and how many of each item, it will increase our efficiency as the packer won’t have to make  checks before packing up all of the lovely orders.
The process is very easy (we’ve had plenty of practice now) and we can talk you through what you need to do to make your products barcode ready. Give us a call, or drop us an email to see how we can help you.

Top tips for wrapping a pallet

Written by

IMG 20201113 1240508535 2

At Carrier 3PL we send and receive 100’s of pallets and take great pride in our wrapping skills.  So, to avoid your pallets looking like this delivery, here are our top tips…..

  • Use the correct size pallet for your cargo. You want your cargo to fill the length and width of the pallet where possible.
  • Always stack your pallet evenly with the heaviest boxes at the bottom – nobody wants a squashed box!
  • Is your cargo very fragile? If so, use corner protection to protect against bumps in transit.
  • Wrap your cargo to the pallet. Straps work very well for this but aren’t always needed. Ensuring that you have a few layers of pallet wrap around the bottom of your pallet, onto your first layer of boxes minimises movement in transit. You don’t want your cargo slipping off its pallet.
  • Keep your pallet wrap tight. Baggy pallet wrap allows for movement and damage.
  • Remember the top of your pallet. They will inevitably go outside during the loading and unloading processes, wrap the top of your pallet to stop any rain from getting in. Or use a sheet of plastic on the top to protect against the elements.

Finally, remember to tell your haulier if the pallet is stackable or not. If you have items that would crush, you don’t want another pallet being put on top of yours during transport.

Saving you money with recycled packaging

Written by

IMG c042b660aee421552be51a6f3fdf898c V

Here at Carrier 3PL we always try to do our bit for the environment. We do love to use a preloved box where possible and have customers that like to only send their product out in used packaging. There does come a point where a box is just no longer a box! With that in mind, all cardboard packaging that has finished its useful life is sent through our latticing machine to create packaging for our customers to use as void fill, if they wish. Not only does this reduce the amount of waste we output, but it can also save you money when compared to buying new packaging. If you would like to take advantage of this service then please don’t hesitate to contact us by either giving us a call on 01271 336000 or by sending us a message from our contact form.
